Wall-mounted hand gel dispensers
Increasingly building managers are installing wall mounted hand gel dispensers in an effort to encourage visitors to maintain good hand hygiene standards. Wall mounted alcohol dispensers and their associated infection prevention signage have been common in our hospitals for some years, but these days hand gel dispensers are not uncommon in doctors and dentists surgeries, care homes and many shared offices and public buildings.
However, studies have shown that a high percentage of people do not use conventional wall mounted gel dispensers because they are in too much of a rush, can’t be bothered, are not aware they need to or because the dispenser is empty. This is despite the best efforts of the hospitals and other institutions in displaying a variety of posters and instructions alongside the hand gel dispensers and throughout their buildings. It seems that in a busy and cluttered world, wall mounted alcohol dispensers and posters are losing the battle to grab people's attention.
The Pure Hold Hygiene Handle solves this problem by incorporating the hand gel dispenser into the door handle, ensuring that most people who enter the area use the alcohol hand gel. In trials, installation of the Pure Hold Hygiene Handle increased compliance rates by more than 700%.
Matthew Richardson, Senior Infection Prevention Nurse at Queen Alexandra hospital explains: “The Hygiene Handle is a novel and effective way of confronting staff, patients and visitors with the need for clean hands. Unlike static wall mounted dispensers which people can miss, the Hygiene Handle requires people to make a conscious decision about cleaning their hands, raising awareness and compliance. It is a simple, yet brilliant idea which staff and patients have been really impressed with.”
